Steve Groveunder, Managing Partner
Our general manager, Steve Groveunder, has over 30 years in the hospitality industry, and has been at The Mash House for five. Steve grew up in Oklahoma and Texas, and is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a degree in Hospitality and Food Science. He has called North Carolina home since the 1980s. Steve has spent many years in the world of corporate restaurants, fine dining, and catering, and has extensive knowledge in food science and menu creation. His tremendous passion for craft brewing and great beer makes him the perfect fit at The Mash House. In his free time, Steve loves to fish, garden, and spend time with his wife, 3 children, and 7 grandchildren.
Reuben Stocks, Brewmaster
Our Brewmaster Reuben Stocks was born and raised in Southeastern North Carolina and worked on his family farm throughout his childhood. He attended NC State and graduated in 2004 with a degree in computer science. He first fell in love with craft beer as a patron, and began homebrewing while working as a plumbing and electrical professional in the Triangle. Reuben started brewing professionally when he joined the Mash House team in 2012. He currently resides in Dunn, NC with his wife and three children.
Robert Hartwell, Executive Chef
For the past thirty years, Chef Robert Hartwell has been cooking delicious and creative dishes. He spent most of his time in his mother’s kitchen where he developed a love for cooking. Robert was inspired by how food can tell a story and bring people together. This helped him developed a passion and interest for cooking.
Chef Robert moved from his home town of Savannah Ga. in 1996. This is when his professional path began as a dishwasher, and where fell in love with the fast pace of the food industry. He worked his way up to line cook and decided to advance his career. He attended The Art Institute of Culinary Arts while still working as a line cook. Chef Robert was then promoted to Sous Chef at O’Charley’s, and after six months he was eventually promoted to Executive Chef.
With years of experience Chef Robert Hartwell joined the Mash House in July of 2014 as the Executive Chef. He enjoys all types of cooking and is committed to creating great food. He enjoys coming to work everyday to create and maintain the high standards of the Mash House.
